lay down
lay down like a wearied tune
tired of rendition
and in its repeated phrase that turn turn turns
so like the tied seasons of Ecclesiastes
you might suppose upon yourself
that things will grow anew
but though naive i suspect
that you might be so full of life
that it has no more experience you might desire
and no fulfillment
so when you become that new instrument
where will you be and how will i know you
from the detritus among the cosmos
piled in heaps within the tip of history
will you sing to me with your familial voice
and will i know the chime but not the content
or the will i feel the gong vibrate as its heartbeat
fills the earth with its vibrant crash
